Edoardo’s personal picks
These aren’t meant to replace my full Google Maps lists — they’re simply a few places I personally like depending on what you feel like eating.
In Rome, a traditional forno can be part bakery, part everyday lunch stop. Go in the morning for breads and something sweet, or come back around lunch for pizza bianca, pizza rossa, pizza alla pala and other savoury baked specialties. They’re one of my favourite ways to eat simply and locally while walking through the city.
A few additional addresses I’d consider when you want proper Roman cooking rather than the usual tourist-centre menu.
These are places I’d look at when food is part of the evening itself and you don’t mind leaving the immediate Trevi area.
Edoardo's Rome
My personal Google Maps collections for exploring Rome without spending your trip researching where to go.
Rome & Vatican essentials
St Peter's Basilica: approximately 30–35 minutes on foot from the apartment, or walk to Barberini and take Metro A toward Battistini to Ottaviano, then continue on foot.
Vatican Museums: Metro A Barberini → Ottaviano, followed by a walk. For museum tickets, use the official Vatican Museums website whenever possible.
Official Vatican MuseumsCards and contactless payments are widely used. A little euro cash can still be convenient.
Italy uses 230 V / 50 Hz. Check that US appliances support 230 V; a plug adapter alone does not convert voltage.
Rome's public “nasoni” fountains provide drinking water; a refillable bottle is useful.
US-style 20% tipping is not expected. Rounding up or leaving a modest extra amount for good service is optional and appreciated.
At stations, on public transport and around major attractions, keep phones and wallets secure and bags closed.
Dress respectfully; major religious sites may enforce clothing and security requirements.

Useful before check-in or after check-out. Opening hours, availability and prices can change, so please check online before going.
Via Santa Maria in Via 17, 00187 Roma
About 2 minutes from Trevi Fountain · currently 10:00–20:00 daily · from €3.50/day.
Via della Vite 42, 00187 Roma
Automatic lockers · currently 07:00–23:00 daily · from €2.49. Online booking recommended.
Piazza dei Santi Apostoli 56–59, 00187 Roma
Convenient for the Trevi / Via del Corso side of the neighbourhood. Check live opening hours and price when booking.
Tipping in Italy is appreciated for excellent service but it is not expected at US percentages. A restaurant’s coperto is a cover charge, not a tip. Cards are widely accepted. If a card terminal or ATM asks whether to charge you in USD or EUR, choosing EUR generally lets your own card network handle the conversion instead of the merchant’s dynamic currency conversion.
Rome is best explored on foot, but watch for scooters and traffic when crossing. In crowded tourist areas and on public transport, keep your phone and wallet secure as you would in any major city. Carry a refillable bottle for the nasoni. Pharmacies are marked by a green cross; for a medical emergency call 112 or 118.
I’d go out early, while Trevi is still waking up, see the fountain before the busiest part of the day, and then simply walk. From my home, the historic centre unfolds around you — Quirinale, Via del Corso, the Spanish Steps and Pantheon are all made for discovering on foot.
Use my personal Google Maps guides as you explore. Open the dedicated guide section, choose the list you need, keep your phone’s location turned on and look at the map while you walk. That way you can see which of my saved places are already around you instead of planning your day around a rigid itinerary.
And one personal tip: don’t skip Rome’s bakeries. They’re perfect for breakfast and for picking up something simple and local as you walk. For lunch, also look out for a pizzeria al taglio — the classic Roman pizza-by-the-slice shop, where you choose the pizza you want and usually pay by weight. It’s one of the easiest and most authentically Roman quick lunches. If you love viennoiserie and specialty coffee, make time for Luna near Barberini.
I made a short video so you can see exactly how to use the washing machine.
▶ Watch my video guidePlease do not press the middle wall switch in the bathroom. It controls the electric water heater. Switching it off turns off the water heater and there will be no hot water.
Please do not unplug or disconnect any cables near the sofa or underneath the bedside table. They are part of the home’s connected equipment and should remain plugged in during your stay.
Good to know in my Roman home
A few practical things I’d tell a friend visiting Rome for the first time — especially if you’re coming from the United States.
Italian sockets commonly use Type C, F and L plugs. A travel adapter changes the plug shape, but it does not convert voltage. Before plugging in a US appliance, check that its label says 100–240 V. Please never force a plug into a socket.
Homes in Italy often have lower electrical capacity than US homes. Please avoid running several high-power appliances together — for example A/C + stove + hairdryer — as this can trip the power.
You can drink the tap water. Around Rome you’ll also see the small public drinking fountains known as nasoni — perfect for refilling your bottle.
Hot water is not unlimited. Please leave the middle bathroom switch ON and allow the electric water heater time to recover after several long showers.
Take your keys and phone · turn off A/C or heating · turn off the stove, kitchen appliances and lights · never leave an appliance running unattended · close the apartment door and the building entrance behind you.
Technical help · Wi-Fi, power & hot water
If something isn’t working, please contact me first. Don’t unplug equipment, force anything or repeatedly reset systems if you’re unsure.
Power outage
Too many high-power appliances running together can trip the electrical system. First switch off the high-power appliance that caused the overload, then contact me. The electrical panel breakers normally need to be in the UP position for the home to work correctly; I prefer to guide you before you touch the panel.
Wi-Fi
Please do not unplug the router or any cables. Occasionally an internet interruption can come from my provider and is outside my direct control. I’ll always be happy to check it and do everything I can to get you connected again.
Hot water
My home uses an 80-litre (about 21 US-gallon) electric storage water heater for the hot water throughout the apartment. Unlike an on-demand system, it heats and stores a limited amount of water. After several long showers the stored hot water can be used up and the tank needs time to heat the incoming cold water again. A completely cold 80 L electric tank commonly takes roughly 3 hours to fully reheat, depending on the heater, incoming-water temperature and thermostat setting. Please keep the middle bathroom switch ON.
Please use the bins provided inside my home. If they become full during your stay, in the courtyard you’ll find a door leading to the condominium storage room with the larger communal waste bins, where you can dispose of your rubbish.
